This patient was transferred to Henry Ford Hospital from another hospital as she was diagnosed with locked in syndrome, a medical condition that is very common wherein the patient could only move their eyes up and down.  This patient is in fact one of the first patients in US to be treated for stroke with this drug. Taking Viagra in the dosage of 50mg and then 100mg initially, the patient now takes 150mg Viagra every day.

Outcome

The patient is recovering and is now able to smile, eat and is also able to move the limbs. Most of the recovery in the patient is seen after a period of six months. This is not much common for people who have had stroke who notice a deceleration in recovery. People who have had locked in syndrome are very rarely able to walk or talk again. But with Viagra, this patient is recovering well.

Drugs like Viagra provide significant neurological functioning and patient do much better on this treatment. One can be treated with Viagra after stroke. There is a significant increase of new brain cells and a significant reduction in neurological deficit.
