In general, this drug is taken to relieve muscle pain and the consumption of the drug must be accompanied by proper rest. Among the other muscle relaxant group of drugs generic soma or carisoprodol causes extreme drowsiness and has great abuse potential. Because of its potential for abuse and serious side effects it comes under the category of controlled substance. Small children, youngsters and others who are not prescribed this drug are not advised to use this. It is always better to not use a drug unless it is prescribed, to avoid unnecessary complications.

Recommended soma dosage

Carisoprodol is generally available as 250g and 350 mg tablets and can be taken up to 4 times a day with or without food, but eating actually delays the onset of action of this drug. The medicine can be taken by mouth with water. This short term drug can be used only for 3 weeks or less, as prescribed by the doctor. Avoid consuming alcohol while taking soma. People taking this pill are not supposed to increase the dosage or consume it frequently or longer than prescribed as it might lead to serious side effects. Increasing the dosage is not going to help in betterment, it will only worsen the case. Over usage or extended usage may even cause withdrawal symptoms in people who stop consuming this medicine all of a sudden. To prevent such withdrawal symptoms consult the doctor and he may reduce the dosage gradually.

Does soma cause weight gain?

Consuming soma causes metabolic changes in the body. These changes include weight loss as well as weight gain in some people. In general, soma is a sedative, so taking soma can cause drowsiness or dizziness. Patients are given soma when they are injured and they become drowsy which stops them from performing any physical activity and this in turn causes weight gain as the person will not be able to burn any calories. But for some other people it causes vomiting, nausea and stomach upset making them to lose their weight by limiting their ability to eat. Soma withdrawal symptoms

When compared to the benefits, soma also has equal withdrawal effects. It is safe to stop using the pill or start consulting a doctor when allergic reactions like swelling in face, tongue or throat, difficulty in breathing happen often. Serious allergic reactions to this drug happen in rare cases. One should stop using this pill and consult a doctor immediately if he has the below mentioned medication side effects
• Feeling light headed or fainting
• Blurred vision
• Agitation and confusion
• Fast heartbeat
• Lack of coordination
• Seizures
In general, many people using this drug do not have serious side effects but it causes dependence which makes it very difficult to stop using this drug. This drug is not recommended during the first 3 months of pregnancy which is the initial stage of development of the fetus, as it may harm the unborn baby. Even during the last 6 months of pregnancy this drug has to be used only if it is absolutely needed. Nursing mothers are not advised to take soma as it passes into breast milk and may result in undesirable effects on the nursing baby.
