Gyne-lotrimin is a highly potent antifungal medication in cream form that is extensively been used to treat fungal infections in both humans and animals. Clotrimazole is the generic name of the pill.

The inactive ingredients are Purified Water, Cetearyl Alcohol, Benzyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Monostearate and Cetyl Esters Wax. Perhaps, it is a host of these inactive medical components along with the active ingredient that makes the topical cream more powerful.

For treating skin infections the Gyne-lotrimin cream should be applied twice a day for about two to eight continuous weeks.

For treating yeast infections in vagina, the cream should be applied in the inner regions of vagina. The medicine is recommended for use in both pediatrics and adults.


In order to treat vaginal infection, one applicator ful should be inserted into the vagina during the bedtime for seven consecutive days.

To apply it on the external surface, take a small proportion of the cream in the fingertip and rub it on to the skin surrounding the vagina.

To experience complete relief from infection, use the Gyne-lotrimin cream for the entire course of therapy. Some manufacturers of the medicine provide seven applicators which can be used for seven days. Don’t reuse the same applicator for each consecutive day.

Side effects

When the Gyne-lotrimin medicine is administered in oral formulation the side effects are vomiting, nausea and itching. Women taking the medicine or applying the cream experience burning sensation in vagina. Liver function tests should not be performed whilst undergoing course of therapy with the medication, as the results might be abnormal given the impact the medicine causes in the liver.

Vaginal discharge with foul smell is the other common adverse effect of the pill.
