Endep is a medicine that belongs to a group of tricyclic antidepressants. It comprises of the active ingredient amitriptyline that acts as a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The pill works by preventing the nerves in the brain from absorbing the neurotransmitters (epinephrine and serotonin). The drug was approved by FDA in the year 1961 and listed as one of the essential medications by the World Health Organization.
What is Endep used for?
Endep is more effective when compared to other antidepressants. In addition to depression, the pill is also prescribed to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), anxiety, stress and migraines. At times, the pill is also used to relieve nerve pain. It is predominantly used in people with mood disorders.
This medication belongs to a class of drugs called as tricyclic antidepressants. It works by altering the natural chemicals in the brain that might be in imbalance state. Endep convert the chemicals from imbalance state to a balanced state. So, people with the above mentioned conditions take this medication they can get good relief at a very faster rate.
How to take Endep?
The medicine is available in the form of a tablet and it can be taken with or without food orally. The dosage strength ranges from 100mg to 300mg when it is prescribed for adults.
When the Endep pill is used by elders they are supposed to take only 25mg. initially 50mg of this medicine is prescribed. Higher dose of the pill, if prescribed is better to be taken at bed times to diminish hypnotic effects that may be felt during the day time.
A person is advised to take the missed dose once he remembers but he should refrain from taking them if it is already time for the next dose. Children below the age of 18 are not supposed to take this pill.
An individual is advised to consult his physician if the below mentioned side effects prevails for a prolonged duration or worsen the present condition.
It is nothing to be worried that there are many people in the world who do not find any trace of ill effect on them. Interactions with other drugs
Drug interactions are dangerous and can even be life threatening at times. Some drug interactions are possible while taking Endep drug. A person is supposed to inform his physician if he is on treatment with MAO inhibitors like tranylcypromine and isocarboxacid. Drugs like antihistamines, cimetidine, quinidine, sedatives, thyroid medications, antidepressants and diet pills also interact with this drug.
When a drug interaction happens, it would change the way on how a medication would work. There are chances that these interactions would increase the risk of a person to get affected by side effects.
Taking Endep medication along with Aspirin would increase the risk of bleeding in a person. But, if your medical specialist suggested you to take aspirin with the lower dosage strength then you can take it accordingly.
Some drugs when combined with endep would cause seizures and they are isoniazid, theophylline, phenothiazines, and tricyclic antidepressants.
To be at a safer side, it is recommended to tell about all your current medications that you are taking with a prescription or over the counter.
