There are however many drugs available in the market to curb cholesterol issues, yet Crestor and Zocor are among the most recognized ones which are known to produce effective results to a large number of people. The effectiveness of Crestor and Zocor is discussed in detail so as to ascertain the individuality of each of the product and be informed of the ideal one when it comes to treating yourself against the excess fat in the body.

Crestor is prescribed by a large mass of doctors across the globe to patients who are suffering from bad cholesterol. It can be used by adults and children who are at least eight years and older so as to lower the types of fat, also called as triglycerides and cholesterol in the blood. The drug also aids to lower the build-up of fatty deposits or plaque in the blood vessels. This medication belongs to a group of drugs known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors or the statins and is believed to work in the body by reducing the levels of bad cholesterol, better known as low-density lipoprotein or as LDL and triglycerides in the blood and enhancing the levels of good cholesterol i.e. high density lipoprotein (HDL). Crestor is even efficient in treating hereditary forms of high cholesterol including the heterozygous and homozygous type. You can avail Crestor even in its generic form with the name rosuvastatin.

Zocor belongs to a group of drugs known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors or the statins and is available in the generic formulations as simvastatin. This med also works in the same way as that of Crestor and helps in lowering bad cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. One can use Zocor if they are adults or at least range above the age of ten years.

Both of these medications are equally effective except for a few differentiations like their composition of ingredients or their interactions with other drugs. Zocor has problems when it is consumed with certain foods like having grapefruit or its juice along with it. Doing so can result in some inconvenience in the body and hence a person is advised not to take grapefruit juice while on medication with Zocor. Crestor on the other hand is known to be a little more effective than Zocor and doesn’t seem to offer such problems. Most people’s opinion is that they choose Crestor over Zocor though both of them are still equally capable of fighting bad cholesterol.
