Cialis for PAHCialis, the brand name of Tadalafil, is one of the most prominent prescription medications available today as the drug can help treat a range of health conditions, particularly erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. The mechanism of Cialis makes it especially useful in managing pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a rare disorder that occurs in both adults and children. PAH can also result in someone diagnosed with some kind of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD is not curable but the symptoms can be managed and the quality of life improved through the implementation of various treatment techniques. The use of Tadalafil for PAH arising in patients with COPD was a study that was undertaken. Details and results of the findings are given below.

Study results of Cialis in the treatment of PAH in patients with COPD

The study was undertaken in an extremely small group of just two men who had developed PAH due to COPD. The general survival rate of persons with these conditions is unpredictable as there is no cure for this problem. Prior to commencing the treatment with Cialis, the depressed myocardial performance index of the right ventricle in the patients was studied. The therapy with daily Cialis 10mg was provided along with the baseline treatment of PAH. This dosage was then doubled after two weeks, with the patients demonstrating good tolerability without any significant side effects. Following the four week drug course of Cialis in these two patients, it was discovered that they had signs of decreased pressure in the pulmonary arteries, along with improvement in the depressed myocardial performance index of the right ventricle. The two PAH patients on Cialis also showed improvement in their exercise capacity.

Although the major limitation of the study is the size of the group assessed, these results are promising in that it raises the possibility of initiating a larger study so that any positive improvement with Tadalafil use can be experienced by PAH patients worldwide. The potential to improve the quality of life in someone with incurable COPD is hopeful indeed.

How Cialis works in treating PAH

Cialis is a PDE5 inhibitor and as such possesses vasodilatory properties. The drug works by improving the blood flow in different parts of the body by enabling the muscles in the walls of arterial blood vessels to relax. This mechanism is what made it a hugely successful treatment for ED problems in men. Since the medication also impacts other parts of the body’s arterial blood vessels, it is suitable for managing conditions like PAH. As such, Cialis has yet to be approved officially by the FDA for PAH but off-label uses are common. Moreover, Cialis is generally preferred than similar ED medications like Viagra and Levitra as it has longer lasting effects. Daily use of Cialis can help maintain the drug’s therapeutic effects in the system without requiring multiple doses in a day. Cialis is the right one to take for PAH if the healthcare provider deems it suitable for the persons suffering from this condition.
