Product Description

Cardura is a medication classified under the alpha-adrenergic blockers that was launched in the year 2005 by pharmaceutical major Pfizer. The generic name of the pill is Doxazosin mesylate. By then it was available in sustained release formulation by name Cardura XL. Color of the pill varies with dosage strength. The inactive medical components of the drug are sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate and lactose.

Medical Uses

Cardura is used for treating high blood pressure and to control the symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperlasia. The medication works in the body by relaxing the arteries and veins thereby smoothing the blood flow.

Cardura is also used to enhance the urination pattern in men. Through clinical tests the efficacy of Cardura in treating chronic epididymitis was determined. However, the observations weren’t that convincing. In individuals with enlarged prostate, the medication relaxes the prostate and bladder muscles.

Dosage and administration

The dosage strengths available for Cardura are 1mg, 2mg, 4mg and 8mg.

Cardura should be taken as per the doctor prescription. Dose titrations recommended by the doctor for achieving optimal results should be strictly adhered to.

During the initial course of therapy it might cause dizziness and in some individuals. It even lowers the blood pressure too. It ceases off once the body gets accustomed to the medicinal ingredients of Cardura. Patients undergoing a course of therapy with the medication should check the blood pressure count and prostate very often.

Discontinuing Cardura for a brief period of time and starting the course again should be done only after consulting the doctor. Usage instructions remain the same even for generic variant of the pill too. However, an individual should identify if there are any specific usage instructions to him/her based on the body condition.

Side Effects

Allergic reactions are very common whilst using Cardura. Some of them are swelling, breathing difficulties, and formation of hives. Commonly reported adverse effects of Cardura are headache, tired feelings, dizziness, low blood pressure and drowsiness. However, there are certain side effects that require immediate medical attention. Those are prolonged erection of penis, pain in stomach, bloating of stomach, and feelings of light headedness.
